Eric
Photography (Primary Division)
Suddenly turning around made 6-year-old Eric and his brother dizzy and happy as
they spun around together on a playground saucer ride for Eric's picture. Eric,
who is a 1st grader at an elementary school in Aurora, put the
camera in the saucer ride with bungee cords and snapped the picture by using a
cord that was attached to the camera. He took five black and white
pictures that way. Eric chose to have one of the pictures enlarged, and
then he applied photo paint to the enlarged picture using cotton swabs and
cotton balls. "I did this all by myself," Eric said. Eric's
mother is given credit, however, for checking the camera to make sure it didn't
fall off the saucer ride and giving the saucer a good spin---and of course she
did all the driving to and from the park and the photo lab.
Judges' Comments
This photo is as simple as it is compels. It was really refreshing to see
this young photographer incorporate so many elements into his work, including
movement, creativity, fun, and incredible execution of the medium. You can
almost hear the boys giggle as the playground ride spins around the photographer
trips the shutter button...You almost feel as if you are in the ride with Eric.
